Your child's safety is the most important thing out of everything we do at South Side. We ensure that every class, project and production is run in a safe and secure environment.

Safeguarding is an essential part of all our teams training before working with any of our Young People. All South Side staff also have valid DBS certificates. South Side is overlooked by our Safeguarding Officer, Bethany Pease from Kingston Social Services (Achieving for Children).

What are we doing to ensure classes are COVID-SAFE?

At South Side we will always put the health and safety of our young members at the centre of everything that we do. We're so excited to be welcoming you back to classes and projects shortly,  but we will be welcoming you back with new measures in place to keep you safe!

As a company we have developed a full COVID-19 Risk Assessment following Public Health England advice, which all our team will be briefed on and will be central to the development and planning of all classes and projects. Despite these guidelines we can still guarantee you every single class will still be just as fun and imaginative as before lockdown.

You can relax that your young person will be coming to the safest place possible upon their return!

In classes they will still experience the full range of activities they would usually be doing, including dancing, singing and drama safely. Below are some of the key changes that we will be making to our classes to keep your son/daughter safe.

Social Distancing

  • Social distancing guidelines will be adhered to throughout classes, with group activities planned specifically to work with these.

  • Class sizes will be limited to adhere to the government guidelines and the size of the class space.

  • Young People will be registered at the main entrance by a member of the South Side team, without the need for parents to enter the church.

  • We will not play any contact or hand-holding games.

  • We will be introducing a one way in and one way out of class system to avoid classes from mixing at the beginning and end of classes.

  • Future shows and End of Term Performances will be live-streamed for the time being to allow you to watch them at home live!

Hand Washing and Hygeine

  • All young people will be required to wash their hands with soap upon arrival to their class.

  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the class and children will be encouraged to use it and regularly wash their hands.

  • Only one young person will be allowed in the toilets at a time.

  • Rehearsal rooms and surfaces will be regualry cleaned down before and after classes.

  • We will be limiting the number of shared resources in class.

  • We will be encouraging the 'Catch It, Kill It, Bin It' procedure throughout classes.

  • All windows and doors will be open throughout the class.

Food and Drink

  • We are asking all young people to bring their own water bottle and snack to class as we will no longer be providing drinks throughout. Please ensure snacks are nut-free.

  • Young People will be reminded not to share any drinks or snacks.

Clothing and Bags

  • We request you please bring your son/daughter with as little stuff as possible. If you can, please leave bags and coats at home or in the car. We understand this isn't always possible, so all coats and bags that you do bring will be kept on pegs outside of the room and children will be sent in groups to collect them.

COVID-19 Symptoms

  • We are asking all parents, as per government guidelines, to please keep their son/daughter away from class if they are unwell or showing any COVID-19 Symptoms.

  • If symptoms do appear during class, parents will be contacted to come and collect their son/daughter immediately. The young person will be sat at the side of the class until they're collected.

What happens if classes cannot run in-person?

  • If South Side classes are forced to close due to COVID then classes will go virtual. We will sadly be unable to offer any refunds.

  • If classes are cancelled and virtual classes are unable to go ahead then a refund for the remaining classes will be offered.

  • If you cannot make a class due to having to isolate we regret that we cannot offer a refund for the classes you miss.

  • If classes are postponed for 2 weeks due to the whole class having to isolate, classes will go onto zoom for those 2 weeks.
